Does Your Site Need Therapy?

Most of the people that are attending WordCamp Seattle have blogs or a website (hopefully it is running WordPress). I’m sure most os us are always looking for ways to improve your sites.

Ian Lurie of Conversation Marketing will be running a session at WordCamp Seattle titled “Internet Therapy: Tough Love For Your Blog”. We are asking that you submit your blog before Sunday at 5PM to get a little therapy from Ian. He will then select a few sites from those submitted and conduct a live review for the group.

I’m sure this will be very enjoyable. I have been reading Ian’s blog for the past few years. From what I have read, he will offer great insight regarding SEO, social media, marketing, etc. And I’m sure he’ll throw in some humor as well.

Please submit your blog or website to us at wordcampseattle at gmail dot com or use our contact form.

Update: we are no longer accepting submissions. Thanks to those who volunteered.

Thanks for Making it All Possible!

WordCamp Seattle is made possible in large part due to the generosity of our sponsors.  We’ve added a few great sponsors since last time.

The Ballroom in Fremont

The Ballroom is sponsoring our after-party.  It’s the perfect place for us since it’s within easy walking distance, they mix great drinks, and they are giving us a  private room and three of their famous 28″ pizzas!

WordCamp Seattle 2009 would like to thank our other new sponsors:

Gastineau Communications, Inc.

We are looking for additional sponsors to help make this a successful event. Please visit the Sponsorship Opportunities page.

Wait List

WordCamp Seattle 2009 is currently sold out. If you would like to be added to the Wait List, visit our Eventbrite registration page and register for the Waitlist option. If additional tickets become available, we will notify people on the Waitlist first.

Another option for getting a ticket to the event is through sponsorship — any sponsor who contributes $100 or more receives admission to the event for one person. This is a great opportunity for small or large businesses alike as your name and business will be exposed to over 200 event attendees. Read more about WordCamp Seattle Sponsorship Opportunities.

Update (9/21/2009): The Wait List is full.

Late Bird Registration

Late Bird Registration begins on Friday, September 04, 2009 at 9:00AM PST. We’ve arranged for 50 more tickets to go on sale thanks to the gracious support of our host Adobe and our other sponsors (Pathable, Pet Holdings, Press75.com, Windows Live Writer, Seattle Underground Travel, and Seattle Washington Real Estate).

We still need additional sponsors to help cover the costs of the event. If you’re able to contribute $50, $100, or more, read about our sponsorship opportunities. We’re also looking for in-kind sponsorships of food for morning and afternoon breaks and lunch if you’d rather contribute in that way. If interested, contact wordcampseattle@gmail.com.

If you’ve written a book, your business sells a product or service, or if you work at a fancy restaurant, we’re also looking for door prizes to give away at the event in order to involve the local community and help introduce our attendees to new places in Seattle.

Update: The additional 50 tickets sold out in less than 10 hours! We’re going to set up a wait list for anybody that wasn’t able to get one and we’ll provide more details on how that’s going to work in an upcoming blog post.

Ignite WordCamp Seattle – Speakers Needed

Getting speakers for WordCamp Seattle has been both enjoyable and time-consuming. We have attempted to get a wide range of topics centered around WordPress. Since the event will only be one day, there are topics that will not be covered. Lots of them. To compensate for this, we thought it would be fun to have an hour filled with short talks about WordPress in the Ignite format we have all come to know and love.

For those of you who are not familiar with Ignite, each speaker prepares a talk with 20 slides. The slides auto-rotate each 15 seconds giving each speaker 5 minutes to say what they need to say. Short and to the point. Take a look at some presentations given in the past.

But we need your help to make Ignite WordCamp Seattle work. We are looking for volunteers to give presentations on anything WordPress. Given the short amount of time for each presentation, each one needs to be focused on something very specific to WordPress. We will be accepting submissions for the next few weeks. No submissions will be accepted after 5 PM on September 16. The organizers of the event will then choose 6-8 entries to give their presentations at WordCamp Seattle. As you may have noticed, the timeline for this does not leave a lot of room for error. But I’m confident we can make this a fun and successful part of WordCamp Seattle.

And if you have an idea of what would be a good topic but don’t want to prepare the presentation, leave your idea in the comments. I’m sure somebody would be up to it.

Update: submit your presentation idea to wordcampseattle at gmail dot com or you can use the form on the contact page.
